What “ATS-friendly” means here
Most ATS convert your PDF to plain text before anyone reads it. Our PDFs are generated so that the conversion keeps every word intact. We test that automatically on every template:
- Name, email, phone and links are real text in the page body
- Section headings use standard wording and sit on their own lines
- Job titles, companies and date ranges stay together, in reading order
- Compound words like “cross-functional” never break across lines
- No ligature glyphs, letter-spaced words, hidden text or editor placeholders
- Descriptive file names: First_Last_Resume.pdf

Will my resume pass applicant tracking systems (ATS)?+
Resumaker exports text-based PDFs: every word is real text in a logical reading order, headings are standard, contact details sit in the body (not in a header image), and bullets are plain list items. We run an automated parser check on every template before release. For the strictest portals, pick a one-column template and also download the DOCX version.
Are two-column resumes bad for ATS?+
Not when they are built right. Our two-column PDFs write the main column first and the sidebar second, so parsers read your experience in order. That’s why each two-column template is marked ATS-friendly after testing. Three-column layouts are best kept for networking and email.
Where are my documents stored?+
In your browser’s local storage (IndexedDB). Nothing is uploaded unless you export a PDF (rendered by our server and not stored) or use the AI assistant. Download a JSON backup to move documents to another device.
Can I switch templates after I’ve written my resume?+
Yes. Templates only change the layout and styling. Your content stays, and sections re-flow into the new layout.

Both. The page size defaults to your region and can be switched anytime in Design & Font.
